Ubud, Bali, Indonesia (18/07/19-22/07/19)

We took a taxi from Seminyak and arrived in the afternoon. We went for a walk around the town and visited the lotus temple and the palace (neither of which we thought were that impressive). We stopped off for coconut ice cream which a girl we met in Borneo recommended to us! …and it was amazing. Then we went to an indonesian tapas restaurant. In the evening we chilled out at the hostel.

The next day we rented a scooter and had a busy day. First of all we went to a waterfall, then through a village where we got speaking to an Indonesian man who took us to some rice fields where there is no other tourists, then we went coffee tasting place which he reccomended also. This was really good (and it was FREE). afterwards, we went to some more ricefields and then drove back to the town. In the evening we went out for food and then back to the hostel again where there were quite a few people drinking and chatting.

The next day we did a cooking class. We’ve never done one before and we love the food here so decided this was the place to do it! It started at 8am with a tour of the market where they let us taste and smell different fruits and spices. Afterwards, we went to the cooking class where we made coconut milk, pastes and sauces all from scratch. We learnt how to make a Balinese soup, fried chicken in sauce, grilled tuna in banana leaf, chicken satay and fried noodles. In the afternoon we relaxed by the pool.

On our final day we the ‘Campuhan ridge walk’ which took us around an hour, walking along a path with hilltop views of lots of greenery and ricefields. The walk ended in a village where we stopped off for a drink before carrying on for another walk through some other rice fields.
