Lombok to Flores – 4 Day Boat Trip (03/08/19-06/08/19)

Day 1- We woke up at 6.30 and took the first boat to Lombok where our trip started. We did alot of waiting around here for everyone to meet up, had to then drive to another port where our boat was leaving from and more waiting around there. We finally got on the boat, had lunch and left at 4pm. We stopped off at an island where we walked up a hill for sunset. We had a couple of drinks back on the boat and went to sleep on our mats, accompanied by 30 other people. It was pretty cosy and an awful night sleep as the waves were so choppy!

Day 2 – We stopped off at an island where we walked to a waterfall and climbed up it, had a swim and climbed back down. We had some snorkelling time at the beach and then got back on the boat and sunbathed on deck. The rest of the day we were travelling and by tea time, the waves were so choppy that hardly anyone ate the food, not many people were drinking and most people (including Kerry) headed to bed with sea sickness tablets.

Day 3 – Our first stop was Manta Point where we all jumped off the boat and snorkelled with Manta Rays. This is something we have both wanted to see for a while and were so happy that we actually saw loads of them! They are so different to anything we have seen! Oh and whilst we were at Manta Point we also saw some small sharks!!! (No photo of the sharks as they were swimming too deep so didn’t catch them on the camera). After here, we went to Komodo Island which is the other reason we did this boat trip. Komodo Dragons are the largest living lizard in the world and they typically weigh around 70 kilograms. They eat deer, but have also been known to attack humans, so we kept our distance and stayed behind the guide who had a big stick to fight them off if they got too close (which luckily didn’t happen). We only saw two dragons at Komodo Island and they were both near the cafe of the park as they apparently smell the food – but are not fed by the rangers. None of them moved and were both just lay down in the shade. In the afternoon, we went to Pink Beach which was really cool and a nice place to chill out with a beer and do some swimming and snorkelling. The reason the beach is pink is due to microscopic animals called Foraminifera, which produce a red pigment on the coral reefs and when combined with the white sands, this produces the colour that is visible along the shoreline. Afterwards, we went back to the boat for our food and had drinks on the deck with everyone.

Day 4- Our first stop was Padar Island and we were all woken up at 4.30am to trek to the top point of the island for sunrise. It was tiring, but definitely worth it!! The view of the 3 beaches was amazing. Afterwards we had breakfast back on the boat, had a little nap and then sunbathed on deck. Our next stop was Rinca Island which is another island where the Komodo Dragons live. This was amazing… We did a short walk around the island and saw more than 10 dragons here. We enjoyed this more than Komodo Island as they were walking around here and we were coming accross them in their natural habitat and not just by the cafe. Afterwards, we did our final stop at Kelor Island which was a really nice beach where we had some time to sunbathe. We also did some snorkelling here which was good! From here it took us around 2 hours to reach Labuan Bajo which was our final destination and when we arrived here we showered (we didn’t have one for 4 days) and went out for burger and chips as we were so sick of eating veg for 4 days.

Gili Air, Lombok, Indonesia (31/07/19-03/08/19)

We took the first boat to Gili Air, chilled out on our balcony for a little while, had a walk around and then had some lunch by the beach. We spent the day on the beach front and in the evening found some bean bags we could sit on and went to the bars with happy hours!

The next day we had yet another beach and snorkelling day, more happy hours and then went for a massage which was really good. Half way through our massage there was a power cut which was funny.

On our final day we decided to try and cycle around the island. We rented bikes and set off and basically failed because it was too sandy to cycle so we spent half the time pushing the bikes through the sand. We took the bikes back and walked instead! Once we got here we chilled on bean bags for the rest of the day and in the evening had some food and an early night ready for our boat trip the next day!!

Gili Meno, Lombok, Indonesia (29/07/19-31/07/19)

We took a boat accross to here which only takes about 15 minutes. It is a much quieter island than Gili T. There was hardly any restaurants and shops for tourists and no cars so we walked around here. You can actually walk around the whole island in less than an hour.

On our first day we went to a snorkel point, had lunch there and walked around one side of the island to the beach by the harbour where we chilled out for the rest of the afternoon. Later on, we went back to the other side of the island for some food.

The next day we went around the island to the best snorkelling points and relaxed on the beaches. The snorkelling here was really good, lots of turtles again, lots of cool fish, sea snakes and colourful coral!

We didn’t do any drinking in Gili Meno. We put ourselves on a ‘Bintang BAN’ and had a 2 day detox haha!!

Gili Trawangan, Lombok, Indonesia (25/07/19-29/07/19)

We arrived here around 4pm so after we had some food and a shower we went out for some drinks. We ended up sat on bean bags on the beach watching live music when we saw a couple called Rose and Justin that we had seen in Seminyak, and got chatting to them. They invited us for drinks back at their villa so we got on the back of their push bikes which was a very bumpy and dangerous ride in the dark. The villa was so nice – it was a tree house with 2 rooms with ensuites, a pool, cool sunbeds, a swing and more… and they said we could stay for the 2 nights they were there!! We woke up to one of the best breakfasts we have had and we got to use pushbikes to get around the island for free aswell so we were buzzing.

The next day after our breakfast we headed back to our shabby room to get some clothes and stuff to take back to the villa, went snorkelling and met back up with Rose and Justin at sunset beach where we watched sunset and had some drinks. Later, we all got some food at the night market and then went back to the villa. There are no cars on the island so we have been cycling to and from everywhere. The other way to get around is horse and cart.

The next day Rose and Justin left so we went back to our guesthouse then had a beach day. In the evening we went to an outdoor beach cinema where they had beanbags and we watched Bohemian Rhapsody.

On our final day we had another beach day, did more snorkelling (there is soooo many turtles here!) and in the evening ended up in an Irish bar watching live music!

Gili Trawangan is somewhere we definitely want to come back to for a beach holiday! We loved it!

Nusa Penida, Bali, Indonesia (22/07/19-25/07/19)

We arrived by boat in the afternoon, rented a scooter and drove to diamond beach. This beach was honestly one of the best beaches we have ever seen (even though we keep saying this). We had to walk down a lot of stairs to get to it but it wasn’t too bad. In the evening, we drove back and went to a beach bar.

The next day we drove to Kelingking beach which we said was one of the nicest beaches we’ve ever seen (again, haha). This was a pretty tough hike down though, more like a climb rather than a walk. Jonho’s flip flops broke, Kerry decided to take hers off for better grip, we were both sweating, our feet were burning on the rocks and it was really tiring.. even more so on the way back up! The beach was unreal though, 100% worth it!

After some lunch, we drove to Angels Billabong which is a natural infinity pool over the sea, framed by rocks. It was so cool! Infinity pools are amazing but when it’s natural and the waves from the sea were crashing over into the pool it was even better! We spent some time swimming here and then walked over to broken beach which is two beaches seperated by an arch.

On our final day we went to Crystal bay which was a nice beach (but not as nice as the others). We sunbathed there for a few hours then went to another beach called Gamat Bay, which was rocky and not as nice. In the evening we went out for some food and then back to the room.

Ubud, Bali, Indonesia (18/07/19-22/07/19)

We took a taxi from Seminyak and arrived in the afternoon. We went for a walk around the town and visited the lotus temple and the palace (neither of which we thought were that impressive). We stopped off for coconut ice cream which a girl we met in Borneo recommended to us! …and it was amazing. Then we went to an indonesian tapas restaurant. In the evening we chilled out at the hostel.

The next day we rented a scooter and had a busy day. First of all we went to a waterfall, then through a village where we got speaking to an Indonesian man who took us to some rice fields where there is no other tourists, then we went coffee tasting place which he reccomended also. This was really good (and it was FREE). afterwards, we went to some more ricefields and then drove back to the town. In the evening we went out for food and then back to the hostel again where there were quite a few people drinking and chatting.

The next day we did a cooking class. We’ve never done one before and we love the food here so decided this was the place to do it! It started at 8am with a tour of the market where they let us taste and smell different fruits and spices. Afterwards, we went to the cooking class where we made coconut milk, pastes and sauces all from scratch. We learnt how to make a Balinese soup, fried chicken in sauce, grilled tuna in banana leaf, chicken satay and fried noodles. In the afternoon we relaxed by the pool.

On our final day we the ‘Campuhan ridge walk’ which took us around an hour, walking along a path with hilltop views of lots of greenery and ricefields. The walk ended in a village where we stopped off for a drink before carrying on for another walk through some other rice fields.

Seminyak, Bali, Indonesia (14/07/19-18/07/19)

Our flight landed at around 11pm so by the time we got our bags and took a taxi to the hotel, we went straight to sleep!

On our first day here we went to Seminyak beach and spent the day sunbathing. We went for lunch inbetween and were amazed at how nice the food is here!! In the evening we went to a bar where they had live music on and had some drinks.

The next day, we rented a scooter and drove right down to the south of the island and visited some beaches there. We went to Balangan beach and sunbathed for the morning, this was our favourite one! We had lunch at Bingin beach but it wasnt very nice to sit and chill here as it was really rocky. Then we went to Padang Padang beach which was nice but very busy. Thomas Beach was our second to last stop and was really nice and then we arrived at Uluwatu for sunset, checked out the beach and then had a drink in one of the bars overlooking the sea. It was a very busy, fun day! We were knackered in the evening so had some food and didn’t make it out after this.

The next day we had another beach day at Seminyak, followed by beers at a bar with some really comfy sofa beds and a pool and then on the bean bags on the beach!

Cebu city, Cebu, Philippines (13/07/19-14/07/19)

We arrived here late and we don’t really like the cities in the Philippines so we went to the mall for food and went to bed, woke up in the morning and headed straight to the airport for our flight from Cebu to Manila. We had a four hour wait in Manila and then had a flight to Bali, Indonesia…

We have absolutely loved the Philippines. It is one of our favourite countries for sure so will definitely come back!

Bohol, Visayas, Philippines (10/07/19-13/07/19)

We got a ferry here at 12.30 so arrived around 4pm. The happy hours started at 5pm so we had a little walk and ended up at a bar by the beach until sunset drinking cheap beer. The sunset here was so nice, it all looked so pink!

The next day, we rented a scooter and drove to the tarsier sanctuary. We saw four tarsiers and they are so so cute!! They are alot smaller than we thought aswell (the size of your fist). We loved it here! Afterwards, we drove to the chocolate hills which are 50 nearly-idential cone shaped hills which turn brown in dry season. This was Tina’s last day with us so in the evening we all went out for food and drinks.

The next day we spent the whole day on the beach and on our final day we spent the morning at the beach too, then got the ferry to Cebu.

Siquijor, Visayas, Philippines (06/07/19-10/07/19)

We arrived here and crashed out for the afternoon (we are not used to early mornings). In the evening we had food and drinks with Tina.

The next day we rented a scooter and went to Cambugahay waterfalls which were really cool. Jonho did the rope swing and the jumps here which were fun.. Kerry watched and just had a swim as her bum is still so sore from the canyoneering! Afterwards, we drove to Saladoong beach where there was a cliff jump which Jonho did. Kerry sat and enjoyed the view of the crystal blue waters with a bottle of San Miguel. We went to Palitan beach in the evening for sunset.

The next day, we had scooters again and went to Lagaan waterfalls. This was really cool as we had the place to ourselves! There was a natural waterside from the top of the waterfall which was really fun and a rope swing! Afterwards, we drove to a rocky beach which was beautiful, had lunch and then drove the long way back to the hostel through the middle of the island (we did the same the day before) and it was such a nice drive with lots of nice views. We went to  bar in the evening.

The next day, it rained a bit in the morning so we chilled out under the shelter on the hammocks by the beach and then decided to take a walk (40 minutes each way) to Lugnason waterfalls. We’ve not done any exercise in ages so feel as though it is much needed. Plus, Jonho’s foot is 100% better and Kerry can’t sit down properly… haha!
